11/13/09: Lydia gave an update and the accepting of resumes stopped today, Friday, November 13th. The resume count is well over 100 and now the committee will determine 20. Each committee person will select their individual 20 then come together to reduce it down to a common 20.
8/27/09: Members of SBC are encouraged to participate in the pastor selection process. The Committee has sent a survey to church membership. The purpose of the survey is to identify who we are as a membership body at Second Baptist Church. The deadline to return the surveys to the Pastor Selection Committee is September 27, 2009 in the drop box in the back of the sanctuary.
The Committee will be advertising and is accepting applications for the Pastor position. Interested candidates should send a resume, a brief personal testimony and a statement of faith to:

7/26/09: Thank you for your participation in the mini survey. A summary of the results were published in last week’s bulletin and on the website (click here). If you would like more information regarding the mini survey please see Vashti Wilson. The next survey, where the purpose is to identify who we are as a membership body, will follow the mini survey. If you have any questions regarding the selection process any member of the pastor selection committee is available for questions. As a reminder, all announcements from the Pastor Selection Committee can be found on the website as well.
6/23/09: The deadline to return the mini surveys to the Pastor Selection Committee is June 28, 2009. The purpose of the mini survey is to determine what qualifications or traits membership wants for the next pastor. Once the results of the surveys are received, the Committee will begin to transition to the “gathering” phase of the process. Part of this transition will include a larger survey for membership complete. The purpose of the larger survey is to identify who we are as a membership body at Second Baptist Church. The results of the mini survey will be reported once the information has been tabulated.
5/9/09: The Pastor Search Committee is not reviewing applications or interviewing candidates for the pastor position at this time. Any applicant that applies for the position before the position is officially advertised will receive a letter from Pastor Vann explaining that we will keep the information in our files until the time the committee reviews applications. Until that time, we will be relying on membership participation for the success of the candidate search.
4/9/09:
Carl Wilson is the chairperson, Lydia Tate is the secretary, and Vashti Wilson is the committee spokesperson committed to providing Leadership Team reports to the congregation. The leadership teams estimates the search for candidates should take at a minimum 18-24 months. The leadership team will meet twice a month and the congregation will receive reports twice a month at the 8:00 a.m. service, the 11:00 a.m. service, through the bulletin and the website.

4/22/09: LEADERSHIP TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
The Pastor Search Committee has devised a general four-step process for selecting the next leader of the Church. In brief, the steps are as follows:
- Organization- This process will involve creating a description of the Church, its members, its needs, and its community.
- Gathering- This process will involve finding candidates to apply for the position for Pastor of SBC.
- Screening- This process will involve reviewing the applications with specific requirements in mind to find prospective candidates for the position.
- Selection- This process will involve intensive screening of the candidates including beliefs, education, background, introduction to the congregation and trial sermons.
As members of SBC, please participate in the Organization process. The Committee will be creating a survey to complete in relation to the goals of the Organization process as outlined above and every member is encouraged to participate.
